Mudcloth is a tradition that has its roots in the 12th century, in the West African country of Mali .

The construction of authentic MudCloth/Bogolanfini remains the same - weaving together thin strips of plain fabric, usually a yellowish beige natural color, that are then stitched together, and hand-dyed using fermented Mud, tree leaves, Indigo and other dyes.

Characteristics:
  • Constructed of hand-dyed, hand-loomed cotton
  • Length: 1.75 yd
  • Width: 1.14 yd
  • Handmade in Mali
Care Instructions

Only wash when absolutely necessary! Use hydrogen peroxide or chemical free soap (such as Castile Soap) and cold water. Submerge your Mud cloth, gently stirring, let sit for about 5 mins. Remove Mud cloth and GENTLY ring out excess water. Hang dry or lay flat. Iron on back of fabric, on (low) cotton setting if needed.

Tip - to help "set" color ( more specifically for Indigo) and reduce fading/transferring, you can add a small amount of vinegar to the water while washing.
